A dream is a sequence of thoughts, images, and sensations that happen in the mind during sleep. They are a way of dealing with fears and emotions, a replay of parts of the day, and sometimes used as a way of escaping real life problems. As someone who is a vivid dreamer I find it fascinating hearing other people’s experiences with dreams. My work is inspired by places seen in dreams, weather they are relevant to our lives or not.
My research into dreams led me to make design decisions about the design, theme and colour scheme. I found this project relied on trial and error, due to the technicality of this craft. Creating multiple mock ups allowed me to figure out the correct scale to my design, as well as find the best materials that gave the best finish without tearing or creasing.
This is a pop up publication representing places seen in dreams. It consists of a paper constructed publication with the use of water colour, which presents different scenes on each page. I decided to stick with a subtle design that only uses colour on the pop up parts. The contrast between the colour and white represented the separation between real life and the subconscious mind in a dream. I chose four popular scenes people dream about, which I found in my research.
