‘2032 Liverpool Olympic Games

Liverpool has never hosted an Olympic Games and from my research about the city, I believe it would be a successful host city. This is because of its upbeat nature of the city. My work is inspired by previous Games, Munich 1972 use of colours, and Paris 2024 modern style. My aim was to communicate Liverpool as a moving forward city, that is open to modern change and that welcomes people from around the world. I kept a strong link to Olympic sport, whilst sticking to the Olympic brand guidelines .

My thorough research into the city allowed me to make design decisions about the style, themes and colour. The colour theme references ‘The Liverpool Colour Pallet’ designed by Dorothy, as this created a link between the Olympics and Local designers in the city. Sketching my ideas really helped me understand the vision I wanted to achieve. Allowing myself to make mistakes really helped me define the design process as well as improve my problem solving within design.

This is a brand identity for an Olympic Games held in Liverpool. My final pieces consist of a brand emblem and a selection of pictograms, representing characteristics of Liverpool and sport. The use of italics in the type links to the idea of a forward moving city as well as linking to the fast motion of sport. This is unique to other Olympic emblems as the vowels in the word have been removed, this is a link to communication in travel as vowels are often removed to make it shorter and easier to understand
